Overdose Management and Prevention

overdose

Overdose is a major cause of preventable death among drug users worldwide. Although there are no clear overdose related data in Myanmar, field experiences confirm that it is also a major health issue among opiate injectors. To address this, AHRN developed a three-pronged strategy:

  • Revisiting, upgrading and implementing a training and health education on ‘understanding Opiate Related Overdose’;
  • Revisiting, upgrading and implementing a training and health education on ‘Overdose Management Protocol’;
  • Overdose Management with the use of Naloxone. AHRN Myanmar trained outreach workers and peer educators on Overdose Prevention and Management including signs & symptoms of Overdose, how to put in recovery position, do’s and don’ts in treating clients etc. AHRN also use the life-saving medication: Naloxone.

Every Year AHRN DIC Outreach Peer team is saving lives of 200 – 250 People Who Inject Drugs (PWID) annually.
